Update2: Lankan Tamils block Aegan release
Angry with Tamil film star ‘Ultimate Star’ Ajith’s “anti-Tamil” stand on the Sri Lankan Tamil issue, Lankan Tamils in Switzerland, Germany and Denmark have prevented the release of his latest film, Aegan, in their countries, according to a report. The Colombo-based Tamil daily Sudar Oli said on Wednesday that Sri Lankan Tamil expatriates in these three countries were incensed when Ajith and Arjun refused to join the Tamil film industry’s one-day fast to condemn the atrocities committed on Tamils in the war-zone in the Wanni in Sri Lanka.Ajith’s Aegan, where he is paired with Nayantara, was to have hit the screens in Europe on October 25, but it could not be released in the three countries because of Sri Lankan Tamils’ opposition. They did not relent even when Ajith recanted, Sudar Oli reported. The Sri Lankan Tamil diaspora is a huge market for Tamil films and claims are often made that it determines the success or failure of a Kollywood film. However, there is no opposition to Aegan in Sri Lanka. It was released as scheduled in two theatres in Colombo, as well as in Jaffna, Vavuniya and Trincomalee and . Sri Lankan Tamils are watching the film without hindrance.
